I finished my running streak daily mile just now, and came home to find a link to this cool list a friend posted in my Facebook feed. I do love my running community. 10 Lessons Running Teaches You About Life
Running
Running Streak
Runner’s World magazine is promoting the ‘Running Streak’ again this year, so here I go again, trying to get out for a run every day from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day. I got a quick mile in yesterday morning, thinking that was all the time I would have that day to run. Turns out I would have had time for a longer run in the afternoon, and it was a lovely sunny day. Sigh. Today I waited until afternoon, and had a very nice, sunny mile. No photos; just the start of another daily run series.
5k’s and Fall Colors
Gosh, that was a long time between posts. I got busy with various bits of life, and collected plenty of R-S-R ‘material’ along the way, but couldn’t get anything packaged up for a complete post. But hey, since my last post, I’ve tried out (and liked) blacklight Zumba, the Jayhawks have had a conference win, and the Wildcats are bowl-eligible. Yay!
And, I’ve run in a couple of 5k’s, one of which was with Girls On The Run–a cool organization that indoctrinates young girls into the running culture, and gives them all sorts of other reasons to feel good about themselves.

We’ve also had an awesome colorful Fall, that has generally made it a joy to get out and run.

The sun starts to set so early now. I’d change that if I could…
And I’m thrilled to now say I’ve sung this song with the band, and an arena full of people also singing along; to every word and every note.
Gorgeous Fall Weather
Saturday–3.5 miles run/walk at tempo pace in gorgeous weather
Sunday–4 miles walking in gorgeous weather
Monday–5 miles easy pace in gorgeous weather
Today–Kayaking in gorgeous weather
I could get used to this.
On my 5-mile loop, at about mile 3, I pass by the rock sofa.
I’ve never climbed the ridge to try it out.
Until yesterday.
It is surprisingly comfortable. I’m going to have to do this more often.
Sometime I need to stop for a game of checkers.
Restoring the Routine
With all of my travels and other activities this Summer, my running routine suffered, despite my best-laid-plans to maintain my fitness level. So, these past two weeks, I’ve been rebuilding the routine. The weather has cooperated beautifully.
This was yesterday, on my 3.5 mile loop.
The fisherman I passed told me today is to be even better.
My favorite windmill is looking picturesque in the Fall colors and late day sun.
My favorite cultivated field view is looking lovely as well.
I detoured from the pavement because I love this little stretch of gravel road.
(This is normally part of my 5-mile loop.)

And my favorite dam was looking lovely in the late-day sunlight.
I’m not the only one who thinks this is the perfect running course.

Stopover
Another music fix this past weekend. The whole weekend.
(I want to make a quilt like that billboard.)
The entire downtown decked out for the festivities.
The coffee shop recreated an album cover in its front window.
The yarn shop “yarn-bombed” itself.
The downtown crossroads became British.
There was sidewalk art.
The watermelons sported “staches.”
Yes, even these guys got into the spirit.
Where did we sleep? With 9000 other tent campers.
The crowd was great.
Time to get closer.
This band nearly brought me to my knees. Heavy Chevy, baby.
Turning around to see if anyone was behind us.
Then the headliners.

Pedometer recorded 11k steps the first night. Another 10k by the next afternoon. Then I forgot to put it back on after showering.
Another concert this weekend, and one next. Then I endure a long dry spell until mid-October.
More Nighttime Kayaking
Kayaking to the Movies
Last night’s cross training brought to you by Herbie the Love Bug.
With folded lawn chair strapped in (and my stick-on boating lights to be legal at night) I kayaked over to the lake swimming beach area to join in the community outdoor movie night.

The setup was great.

They had citronella torches placed throughout the area, and a movie-style popcorn machine on site; both welcome efforts. It was great to be among lots of families out watching the movie after a day of lake fun.
Looking forward to the next movie night. I’m hearing it will be Smokey and the Bandit.
“What we’re dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law.”
Bristol
Reminiscing on my (almost) 24 hours in Bristol at the end of June.
It started with a hike with two good friends from our hotel in the centre to the awesome Clifton bridge.

Yes, I did the slide. I recommend seat padding for the trip down. The rock is highly polished, but it is still rock hard.
It was a “green day” in Bristol. The centre was blocked off from car traffic. This was an uphill bicycle race. Naturally, when I wanted to catch a photo, no one was racing.

After spending two hours trying to find a store that sells international plug adapters and sim cards (did find a sim card), it was on to the evening entertainment.

Pub stop with friends after the concert. Endless good times and memories.
