It was the morning of the totally awesome annual 10k trail run that I now look forward to all year.
The good news: I found my Garmin, charged it in the car during the 45-minute drive to the race, and got parked in plenty of time for the race.
The bad news: Once I arrived and parked, I took off my old white leather cross-trainers to change into my running shoes. Reached in the bag for my running shoes… and they weren’t there. I’ve now lived out my nightmare where I arrive at a race without my shoes. So thinking, “There must be a pair of running shoes in here somewhere,” I turned the contents of my car inside out. Nada. No running shoes. I found an extra set of almost everything but shoes. I ended up with a very disorganized car to straighten out. I downgraded to the 5k and wore my cross trainers.
We had two inches of rain in the wee hours this morning, that mercifully let up just in time for the race. The course was muddy; the creeks were flowing. It-was-a-blast.
There was mud everywhere after the race.

This is the only trail run I do, and this is the first year since I started doing this race, that it has been wet and muddy. Yet I now badly want a pair of trail running shoes. For next year. I’ll keep them in the car.
‘Tis the night before my 10k…
Where the heck is my Garmin?
Last night after the sun went down but before it was completely dark, I did my 1.2 mile loop. I love long Spring/Summer nights! A big storm was brewing, so it was overly humid. After I got back from my run, I thought I’d never stop sweating.
Today I did my mile commute walk. Then, tonight I tried a new soup recipe that ended up tasting less than satisfactory. It was too rich and made me feel sluggish. So I dragged myself out the door for a quick run, to try to jump start my metabolism and boost my energy level. It was an awful run. My posture was off, due to my stomach being full. But I did feel more alive after it was over; which was the goal.
Hot! It is a hundred and one freaking degrees out there right now. I walked a total of 2 miles today, for my transit commute and a little side-shopping detour. I’ll do a run later when it cools off, and I’ll report on that in tomorrow’s Juneathon update.
Today Juneathon is not my only motivation to get out for a run in this heat. There are two other very er, cool reasons to go for a run today:
Did an early 1.2 mile run this morning. As a consistent evening runner, it is a rare feeling to want to go out for a quick run in the morning. Then a few steps into the run, when the heavy, sluggish feeling sets in, I remember why I am an evening runner. But then I get warmed up and start feeling darn good about getting out there in the morning.
If you know you have to swallow a frog, do it first thing in the morning. If there are two frogs, swallow the big one first.

Today was strictly a yoga day. I have the grueling 10k trail run this weekend, so I can’t overdo it with daily running mileage this week. Tomorrow I shall run again.

It’s here again, just in time! I badly need the motivation. I ran 2.5 miles today. I had a check to deposit, so my run was to the ATM machine and back. The days here have been hot this week, but the evenings are pleasant for running.
On other things that made life pleasant this week–
I took a 24-hour trip, on a plane, to meet up with friends and see a concert in Texas.

It was the perfect getaway. I had a wonderful time, and finally saw this incredible guitar player who has crafted his own unique style.

I hope this was not the last time I see him perform live. He’s also got a magnetic stage personality. Highly recommend his CD, and seeing him live!

It’s that time again! Juneathon starts in a month.
We’ve had some wonderful running weather this Spring, but this week it has been cold, windy, and downright Wintery. Tonight we have a frost advisory, which means I have to cover up the tiny plants I’ve been transplanting outdoors over the last two weeks. And so it goes through these weeks of ‘Sprinter’.
