Hello from our camping spot! Campsite is set up, and we’ve hiked over to pick up our race packets for the festival 5k tomorrow morning. Massive amounts of happy people are here.
Juneathon, day 12
Road trip! First, a quick morning mile run (done for the sole purpose of meeting my daily Juneathon requirement). Then, we finished packing the car for the long drive to hear some great music and camp in tents with about 150,000 new friends whom we have yet to meet. Does packing the car count as weight lifting? With my duffle bag I think “yes”. And then there’s the ‘kitchen’ bag. Now that was a heavy one.
Still on the road as of publication time, with hours to go.
Juneathon, day 11
Another grueling day at the office. Then I started packing the car for our camping trip that starts tomorrow. (Yay!) Then a quick very short run, just to say I did; added to my commute walk.
I’ll be up early tomorrow for more packing and then a 12-hour drive through the Ozarks. Music festival, here we come!
[Warning: Posts over the next few days will be brief and squirelly.]
Juneathon, day 10
It has been a looong day of sitting, working to meet deadlines, hosting guests, mailing reports, and lastly the good stuff–attending monthly quilt guild. So although it was mostly dark out when I got home from all of that, I was determined to get out for a quick and fierce run. What a release that 1.2 miler was. I just got in from my run, and I feel faaabulous. Bring on tomorrow!
Juneathon, day 9
It was a very rainy morning, but we ended up with a delightful evening, in which I was able to do a 1.2 mile run in the early darkness. June nights are magical.
I like this article sooo much. It attributes children’s fidgety behavior in part on spending too much time sitting still in the classroom, and not enough physical activity. I do believe kids need active recess periods every day. I remember coming home from grade school with grass stains, mud and wood chips embedded in my tights.
http://www.balancedandbarefoot.com/blog/the-real-reason-by-children-fidget
An excerpt: “Ironically, many children are walking around with an underdeveloped vestibular (balance) system today–due to restricted movement. In order to develop a strong balance system, children need to move their body in all directions, for hours at a time. Just like with exercising, they need to do this more than just once-a-week in order to reap the benefits. Therefore, having soccer practice once or twice a week is likely not enough movement for the child to develop a strong sensory system.”
Juneathon, day 8
Today I did…
A little running in the country,

a little kayaking,

and another round of yard mowing.

Juneathon, day 7–Forgot my shoes!
It was the morning of the totally awesome annual 10k trail run that I now look forward to all year.
The good news: I found my Garmin, charged it in the car during the 45-minute drive to the race, and got parked in plenty of time for the race.
The bad news: Once I arrived and parked, I took off my old white leather cross-trainers to change into my running shoes. Reached in the bag for my running shoes… and they weren’t there. I’ve now lived out my nightmare where I arrive at a race without my shoes. So thinking, “There must be a pair of running shoes in here somewhere,” I turned the contents of my car inside out. Nada. No running shoes. I found an extra set of almost everything but shoes. I ended up with a very disorganized car to straighten out. I downgraded to the 5k and wore my cross trainers.
We had two inches of rain in the wee hours this morning, that mercifully let up just in time for the race. The course was muddy; the creeks were flowing. It-was-a-blast.
There was mud everywhere after the race.

This is the only trail run I do, and this is the first year since I started doing this race, that it has been wet and muddy. Yet I now badly want a pair of trail running shoes. For next year. I’ll keep them in the car.
Juneathon, day 6
‘Tis the night before my 10k…
- Outfit ready. Check
- Alarm set. Check
- Rain jacket ready. Check
- Breakfast ready. Check
Where the heck is my Garmin?
Juneathon, day 5
Last night after the sun went down but before it was completely dark, I did my 1.2 mile loop. I love long Spring/Summer nights! A big storm was brewing, so it was overly humid. After I got back from my run, I thought I’d never stop sweating.
Today I did my mile commute walk. Then, tonight I tried a new soup recipe that ended up tasting less than satisfactory. It was too rich and made me feel sluggish. So I dragged myself out the door for a quick run, to try to jump start my metabolism and boost my energy level. It was an awful run. My posture was off, due to my stomach being full. But I did feel more alive after it was over; which was the goal.
