Movie Gig Update–Filming is underway

It’s been a week of finishing garments for the start of filming. Filming is now underway.

Over the weekend, we re-created the lady’s outfit in this picture. More about this scene in a future post.

Later this week I will assist with fitting and readying actors and extras in their costumes for a scene portraying a gathering of people. I’ll also be one of the extras, wearing this 2-piece 1870s homestead dress. I’ve spent the past two days getting my dress finished and fitted. Below is what it looks like now, and the ‘before’ picture for reference. The lace tie will become a detachable collar. Once that’s done, I’m pronouncing the outfit complete.

Below is a close up of the fabric and lace.

Meanwhile, a new Wes Anderson movie was released in theaters last Friday. I’m hoping to go see it tonight. It will be full of Wes Anderson-style scenes to feast the eyes on. Hopefully the story is excellent too, but I plan to enjoy it regardless.

  1. First of all…how exciting this must be for you. That dress looks perfect for that time era. It has to be a lot of fun recreating these pictures…well the clothes anyway.

I love how that movie looks. It has a pastel color to it…I would watch it just based on that. I bet they use real film.

    1. Thanks. It’s all been fun, but now I’m really looking forward to finally working with the crew and actors on the set. I can’t wait to see the props and scenes coming to life.

I actually just saw Asteroid City. The story is a hoot, and the whole thing is a feast for the eyes. I bet you’d really like the nostalgic theme. And there is a band in it. That’s all of the details I’ll give.

      1. I can’t wait to see how that goes with the actors.

I texted Bailey straight away and he said it was done by the guy who made the Steve Zissou movie…whoever that is. I need to look it up…I will end up seeing it.

      2. Ah, that movie is Life Aquatic. It’s my youngest brother’s favorite. There are several others I’d recommend. The one many people know because it won awards is Grand Budapest Hotel. It’s great. I think there’s only one Anderson movie I don’t like–The Royal Tenenbaums.

      3. Oh I saw that! Lisa reccomended it and I liked it. I’ve heard of the Royal Tenenbaums but never watched it.

      4. Life Aquatic is probably not my favorite from Wes Anderson, but it is fun to watch. And the thing is, if one of his movies isn’t your cup of tea, try another one, because he’s done quite a variety. My faves are Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, The French Dispatch, and now Asteroid City. And throw The Darjeeling Limited in there too.

  2. How exciting that what you made is going to be filmed. I like Wes Anderson movies too, but have a bad habit of not going to the cinemas to see any movie. Glad you have inspo to sew. Right now, I don’t have it but have been knitting some. Take care.

    1. Thank you! The movie experience is all new to me, and I’m hoping to learn as much as I can. I’m the inspo reverse of you. I’m sewing a lot, but can’t get interested in knitting right now. Hopefully this fall or winter I’ll feel like knitting again.

I bet this movie will be available to stream very soon. I rarely go to the movie theater, and almost waited for the stream. But it was a nice change of routine to go out and see it on the big screen.

      1. So, this is a full feature film, not a TV series? Phil Strawn was just talking about his town of Granbury having the 1883 crew shooting scenes there.

When I was living in Texas, I worked in downtown Austin and they were forever shooting movies there. They always wanted us to move our vehicles out of their way.

      2. Yes, it’s a made-for-TV movie. I have a friend who lives in Granbury. I need to ask him about that filming!

I can imagine Austin being constantly in someone’s film. That would get old, having to navigate around their sets.
